Good news finally.
I am getting a new dachsie bitch on Thursday, weather permitting, I am so excited, it was just the lift I needed.
She is black and cream,Diquest Black Chiffon dob 4/4/11, call name Mini but I will change to Maizie. She is PRA cord1 hereditary clear, dam is cream, sire is choc/tan. Have put her details and my lads into the KC Mate Select and the inbreeding coefficent is good for both.
The pics I have are not good, she is still too skittish to stand still stacked on the table for pics,so you will have to wait till I get some to share with you all.
I was going to get her last year but changed my mind, she was then sold to a breeder who decided 2 months ago to down size and returned her to her breeder, she was over weight, unsocialised, never been leash trained so Dianne has been working hard with her and taking her to ring craft where she has been doing very well.I had placed an advert looking for show/breed quality bitch and Dianne saw it and contacted me yesterday as she was waiting for the right home to come along, I feel it is fate that she was suppose to be with me. Dianne said that if I don't like her when I see her in the flesh then not to worry about it and feel I have to take her.
She is very playful so her and Lexis should get on well, maybe her being returned when I rehomed her last year was meant to be too.
Will update you when I have more news.
Just got this pic, points don't look as cream as they are on the other pics but we all know how hard it is to get cream right in pics.

Yay! You're getting a girl-I'm so happy for you! You've had a rough year, and hopefully this is the start of a brighter, more exciting 2012 for you. Congratulations, Rhona!
Re: Good news finally.
Congrats! Oh what a pretty head of course i notice that first, lol.. So happy for you. Makes you feel good doesn't it?
Re: Good news finally.
Thanks ladies I am so excited I can't sleep for making plans in my head.
Maizie is bigger built than my previous girls, looks more like Tia did at that age so fingers crossed. Getting her at an older age means any faults should be there now and not pop up later,as we all know no dog is fault free.
I will get to meet her sire will get pics, and see pics of her dam who was rehomed after her litter last year.
We are taking Penny with us so her breeder can see how well she is after the rough start with the liver shunt, she will be 9yrs old in May,we never thought we would see 1 year when she was so ill.
Will update when I can

Re: Good news finally.
Well she is here, she is lovely, her points are really creamy and she has been sticking to me like glue, is asleep on the bed beside me having met the other dachsies who barked their heads off at her from the other side of the baby gate, they were wagging their tails, she stood her ground and just watched them. I will continue the introductions one dachsie at a time so as to not spook her.
Got to meet her sire Rolo who is dark choc/tan with really good pigment, he was wary initially then settled down and had a nap after we used treats as enticement, got to see pics of Maizie's dam, her granddam is Rhuari's litter sister.
Mum fell in love with a cute cream pup called Poppy who lay and slept on her lap for most of the visit, if Penny had been friendlier with other dogs she would have brought her home.
Coming home we were held up by 2 road accidents, the first one we were stationary for over an hour when the police came and told us to turn around and find another route and the second one was on a motorway but at least the traffic was still moving slowly, a journey which should have taken just over an hour took over 3 hours.
Will work on getting some pics to share.

Re: Good news finally.
Maizie had a very good night, she was either asleep with her head on my pillow or back to back with me under the duvet, I was awoken by her licking my nose and wagging her tail when I reacted.
Today she has had more 1 to 1 time with the others and been chasing around under supervision with Lexis, taking it in turns who is doing the chasing., if I move they both stop what they are doing to come and see me.
This morning she was sat on my bed looking into the puppy pen where the others sleep and seems fascinated by Rhuari who has been less in her face than the other two, maybe she realises he is a relation of hers.
They are all having a nap now.
I am so happy with how she is adapting to her new home.

Re: Good news finally.
Will get pics soon when I can get her to stay still long enough, need to get her used to stacking etc on my table that goes to the shows rather than trying out various different surfaces.
This her 3rd move and 4th home if you count her being at her breeders twice so she is doing very well, I am used to settling in older dachsies, Chase was 6 months old and Lois 2 yrs old but they had only been at their breeders.
I just go at their pace and don't push them too hard, so far this method has worked for me, never had a scared timid dachsie either.

Re: Good news finally.
OH now this is a fabulous peice of news :: she looks lovely :: SOOOO happy for you!!
Re: Good news finally.
I have had her out twice now on the lead, show lead on the pavement and harness and extending lead on the fields, the weather is soooo cold here so not been very far but she has coped well, not unduly spooked by anything, can't wait for the warmer weather so I can take her farther.
We went up to the local pond and she was watching some birds and kids messing about in the distance.
Lincolns way to get her to play if a bow doesn't work is to mouth her ear which gets her going. Lexis just runs into her and runs off in the opposite direction and Maizie follows at full speed,Rhuari does alot of watching and barking.
Everyone is napping at the moment.
What is really strange is I haven't had a sleepless night since she arrived and haven't needed any meds to help me nod off either, maybe her quiet snoring is soothing me,who knows.

Rhona,
Thanks for the update
I am so happy she is playing well with the others. How encouraging!
Very happy to hear that you are sleeping well. I know how hard it is not to be able to sleep.

Re: Good news finally.
Sounds like she is just the "ticket" to start your new year out right! Something about puppies just makes you forget or put aside your sadness and enjoy life more. Ruth
Re: Good news finally.
Well it is either feast or famine, I was offered another well bred bitch pup today,2/3rds of normal price, her dam only had the one pup and the breeder is having to sell her to get back some money for vet fees incurred from the c/section that was required to deliver her. I declined the offer as I didn't have funds for another pup at this time and I want to concentrate on Maizie as pups with such a difference in ages will have different training regimes and she didn't get off to a great start so don't want to let her down and only do half the job.
Re: Good news finally.
Awww...Rhona,
So sorry that it wasn't offered a bit later after you had maize settled.

Re: Good news finally.
Well it can't be helped, the pup will find a home eventually, her breeder is well known in show/breeding circles so she should find someone to take her if she is that good. Her affix also appears on some US pedigrees.
She has endorsed her so not for export or any of her pups will be KC Reg., till she has proved herself in the ring and that latter endorsement will be lifted.

Re: Good news finally.
Thanks Dana
She has been here 4 weeks today and is very well settled, she now sleeps with the others in my bedroom. She is quite vocal and is having a problem with the word NO which I am working on.

Rhona,
Happy to hear she is settling in with the others and sleeping well in your room Th "No" command should be well understood by her shortly. I am still so excited for you!

Thanks Deb
I can see Maizie grabbing the top dog spot, she has already got Lexis in a submissive pose on her back, the lads have never been interested in the Alpha role, Chase and Lexis would fight for the job after Lois had her pups, Chase would not back down, she had been leader since arriving here at 6 months old and no way she was relinquishing the role, I had to intervene before blood was drawn and seperate them for a few hours, never knew what had triggered the spats, they would blow up out of no where.
Maizie arriving fully grown and not as a tiny pup has allowed her to slip in under the radar, the others don't know she is a fraction of their ages.
She has her spot in the dog pen at night, takes her chews or bones there to hide or eat but soon realised if she left them the others would find them.
I have a new pic of her lying with her paws folded like a cat
She is creamier in this one
