Cricket & Millie Empty Cricket & Millie

Post  Proud Lake Dachshunds Sun Oct 02, 2011 12:00 am

After much thought, I'm going to be spaying Millie and Cricket and putting both in pet homes. I've decided I don't want to battle these bad fronts for years down the line, and so I'm going to be starting from scratch. If anyone knows of someone in Michigan/Ohio/Indiana looking for a pet, please consider sending them my way. My email address is proudlakedachshunds at gmail dot com.

Millie needs a home with no children. She'll be spayed before she goes anywhere, she's debarked, up to date on shots and worming, and does fine with cats.

Cricket is pretty easy-nice temperament, though a little slow to warm to strangers. She'd be great in a home with someone who wants to do obedience or rally. She doesn't seem to have any hunting drive though, so I wouldn't recommend her for earth dog or the field. She also does fine with my cats, and other dogs, and is fine with children so far.

Thanks Rhona. It's going to break my heart to place both of these girls, but I feel like I'm making the right decision. As usual, Lisa said something that had to marinate for a bit before it "took". I actually decided before the shows this weekend, but I didn't want to say anything, and I didn't want to pull the girls and risk breaking majors. So I froze my tushie off for three days in a row for a last placement in my classes. Rolling Eyes

I really don't know what to say except I understand your decision and know it's not easy. Most of us have been in a similar situation a time or to and it stinks. We often have such high epectations for these cute little pups and only a few it seems have what it takes to be worthy of showing. I admire your willingness to do what you feel is in the best interest of the breed even though it's not what you wanted to happen. Cricket is going to be beautiful and awesome pet for ome lucky person. When you find that perfect match you will feel better, I know I always have in the past. All the experiences she has had with you along the way will be very valuable as she goes into her forever home. Hugs to you.

It is hard starting over but like you told me when I decided to - keep your chin up and be patient or something to that effect ..... I know you won't be sorry in the long run. I'll keep my eyes/ears open for pet homes in those areas Wink

I don't get too many emails/calls for LHs but if I don I will send them your way. I understand about biting the bullet and starting fresh.

Kathleen......I commend you for your strong will in making a very hard decision for the betterment of our breed. It is hard to come to such a decision when you worked so hard to make what you hoped would be the best choice in producing a litter with hopes of improving on the faults of your girl Millie. You have learned a lot in the process and that will work with you when start your search for your next start in the breed. Good luck in finding great homes for the girls and in looking for a new foundation girl........just remember there is no perfect dog out there........ just take your time to find what it is you are truly searching for.

Thanks a lot ladies. It's been a rough week, but I'm not crying anymore when I talk about it, so that's progress. I'm leaving work now to pick up the newly spayed Cricket. Hopefully I can find her a fantastic home and she'll make an easy adjustment-that's what I worry about the most.

I took on Lois at 2 yrs old and was worried about her accepting Rhuari and Chase, she was very attached to her breeder so may not settle with me. I need not have worried she was the first on my lap when I sat down and soon got used to the rough play between the other two but was too lady like to join in.

Cricket will soon settle with the right family as she is still young, being used to having other dogs around her she may not enjoy being the only dog.

She had a rough time coming out of the anesthesia. Poor girl was drooling really badly until about 5:00 this morning. She's perked up this morning and finally ate some eggs. I was getting really worried. She hasn't eaten really well since my mom went into the hospital two weeks ago, so she had dropped weight anyway. After two solid days of no food on top of her poor eating prior, she's down almost two pounds-she's 8 1/2 right now and her normal weight is 10.3. My mom is coming home today, and I'm hoping between that and feeling better, she'll start gaining again.

I hope that Cricket is soon back to normal when all her family is back together, any change in routine can upset some dogs more than others.

Cricket has been (tentatively) placed, and will be shipped to Seattle this Thursday. If the potential owner passes Virginia's scrutiny on Friday, he'll take her home with him. Many, many thanks go to Virginia (Sandstone Dachshunds) for her referring her potential new owner to me, and for helping with the shipping arrangements to make it affordable for me to get her to him. I have mixed emotions, but he sounds absolutely wonderful, and has a standard red long and a tweenie cream long to keep her company, which makes me feel better for her sake.

Thanks Deb. I don't know if this ever gets easier. I cried when I shipped Kali off, and I'm sure I'm going to bawl like a baby for Cricks. My mom is even upset because Junie's going to miss her sister.

How did things go Kathleen? I know exactly how you feel, only having the lads here is very strange.

Hopefully it gets easier with time

I heard from Virginia a little while ago that Jim came and met her this morning and took her home. She said he was wonderful, and patient and not expecting too much too soon. Hopefully she gets along well with his boys, Moose and Bandit, and lives happily ever after. And hopefully my own waterworks will quit soon. Rolling Eyes
