Lois passed away 31/5/05-11/11/11
Can you send some healing vibes our way as my lovely girl has a nasty infection in her airways.
This has happened several times since she had a GA to remove a lump from her ear when she was about 3yrs old but this time the antibiotics started on Monday don't seem to be doing the trick this time and I worry that it may now have gone down to her chest though I can hear anything abnormal in her chest, we have an appointment for the morning to go back and see the vet,her temp is normal so don't understand what is going on.
I have been giving her menthol inhalations which is loosening the secretions and allowing her to sneeze them up and repeating 3 times per day,she is seperated from the others and normally kicks up a fuss but she has accepted this no bother which indicates to me she is obviously not well.

Aww, poor Lois. She'll be in my thoughts-don't forget to keep her well hydrated.
Re: Lois passed away 31/5/05-11/11/11
Thanks Kathleen, she is drinking water fine and eating soft food that doesn't need much chewing like Fish4Dogs Salmon mousse and moist trays of dog food.
Rhuari is very restless tonight and keeps going and looking at her and giving her a kiss and she is still wagging her tail when he approaches or I go to do something with her.

Aww...I had a litter of puppies several years back that took to a weird respiratory, chest congestion...I stuck them in my garden tub and kept the door closed and put the vapor machine on with menthol and gave them some pediacare and antibiotics...it worked like a charm. Has she eaten anything maybe that doesn't have anything to do wiht her ear problem? Maeve got really bad off a while back. We thought she had a stroke and just hadn't recouped..her breathing and movement was off, slow and harsh..some to find out, she was constipated and had eaten a mouse! She passed it (the whole thing) EWWW...but, immediately bounced back. Took her about four days though..she must have had a minor blockage. Hope she feels better whatever her situation:)

Oh! Seriously, that is all shades of nasty!

No one was settled last night so just after 2am I took Lois into bed with me and lay stroking her and dozed off just after 5am,I awoke with a start just before 8am and Lois had passed away in her sleep, so glad I brought her into bed with me as she has either dachsie or human contact throughout her all too short a life.
I am taking this really hard as dogs and cats I have had in the past haved lived 13-16.5yrs, as a nurse I feel I should have done more.
Today is also the anniversary of my youngest brother Neil death who died in 1993 following a bad RTA,not his fault.
When the remenbrence day poppies start appearing each year my mood really goes down hill, now I have 2 reasons to hate November.
RIP my beautiful girl who gave me the best ever Xmas present in 2008,it will take alot to surpass those 3 pups.
From Rhuari,Chase, your kids Lincoln and Lexis and your heart broken Mum.

Oh nooooo.....
I have tears for you. I'm so sorry Rhona.
I'm glad she had the comfort of being cuddled in your bed in her last hours. Hugs to you on this sad day.

Re: Lois passed away 31/5/05-11/11/11
I am worse this evening, was coping pretty well till I rang my Mum to tell her and since then I haven't stopped crying.
I am going to have an early night and try and get some sleep.
The others are all out of sorts and will probably all be in bed with me tonight and it is only a single, luckily it is against the wall so if they lie that side they won't fall off.

I am so sorry for your loss.
Hug the other dogs for me, and
don't let them shove you outta the
bed tonight.

Thanks for all your kind messages,I've had no internet for a few days so not been able to reply.

I just can't even fathom, Rhona. It's still just such a shock, and for you to go from five to two in such a short amount of time...your house must feel so empty.
Re: Lois passed away 31/5/05-11/11/11
I am so sorry to hear about Lois passing. I know this is rather late for condolences but i have been away from the group for awhile. I see you have a new puppy now and i know she will never replace Lois but i hope she will help you renew and enjoy the time you have with Lois. The Rainbow Bridge awaits us all. Ruth
Re: Lois passed away 31/5/05-11/11/11
Thanks Ruth, Lois will always be special as she produced my first litter. I am hoping that Lincoln and his sister Tia will continue those great genes in their pups.
Maizie is her own dachsie, she will never replace the dachsies who are no longer here but is helping to ease my broken heart.
