Hello from GoldiDox Grove!
Finally able to sign in and post! YAY! Nice to see so many familiar folks here and looking forward to sharing and learning all around.
I'm Karen Ann, mom to a gaggle of long low hounds in Upstate NY. My oldest is Fawn "the snoot" Marie, a red dapple smooth standard who I rescued 6 yrs ago. She's an IVDD survivor and a spunky old gal at age 12. Maizie is my little "working girl"... choc/tan mini, almost 6 y/o, she's my Diabetic Alert Dog. She's a natural alerter (meaning her gift comes natural, she was not scent-trained to alert) and is a little God-send to me. Georgie is my cream longhair, just turned 4 the other day. He's my little showman, working toward his AKC title. He just won his first 3 pt major in August and I'm very proud of him. Joanie is my black/cream longhair, will be 3 y/o in December. She's back in the ring after a 2 yr break, and I have high hopes for her. Dannie is my little guy, who isn't really so little (14 lbs). He's a choc/cream double dapple, and he's totally deaf as a result. Doesn't phase him though, he's a happy healthy loveable guy who I communicate with via ASL. He's smart as could be, and a lovely hound all around.
I'm also mom to Nolte (Golden Retiever) who is almost 10. He's my retired guide dog. I've been sight impaired since birth due to Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and lost the majority of my sight due to diabetic retinopathy in my late teens. I have only light perception in my right eye, and extremely limited functional vision in my left ... I'm able to see shapes, colors, shadows with that eye and can make out very large print if I hold the reading material within an inch or so from my eye. I access the computer via speech/magnification software.
I've been showing for only a few years, and don't really consider myself a newbie anymore, but I'm still learning all the time. I've yet to have a litter here either, but am hopeful that'll change in the not too far off future too.
I look forward to reading about everyone's experiences with breeding and showing, or just every day stories about your wonderful Dachshunds.
