New ED qualifying legs!
Most of you have seen this on fb but here is the run down with pictures...
On 8/12 we traveled ~400 miles to the AWTA den trials and RMEC earthdog tests at Rist Canyon in CO. This is the third time I've been there but first time I've camped out up there. What a beautiful place!
8/13 at the den trials, my 'CH Bentley' shocked the heck out of me by passing novice B. Last year, at the first weekend he was scared of the rats, second weekend, he went down the tunnel, came back out I sent him back in and he would work the rats only with encouragement. When he did everything perfect, the first time in this year without being in a tunnel or seeing a rat for a whole year it truly surprised me. Unfortunately when it came to passing open he took 39 sec to get to the rats...went straight in the tunnel so not sure what he was doing in there that took him so long. 'Tucker JE' who earned his certificate of gameness last year, passed the certificate class again this year and was the only dachshund in the class so got the ribbon for best qualifier in division.
On Sunday 8/14, the rmec had two akc tests. The morning test, 'CH Bentley' made it down the JE tunnel in 26 seconds to earn the first leg towards his JE title and 'Tucker JE' Qd in the SE tunnel to earn his 2nd leg toward his SE title (he went straight to the rats without coming out the false exit like he did last year). Afternoon test, it was hot, and I thought sure they'd both Q. Nope...Tucker took too long to start working and Bentley took his good old time going down the tunnel taking about 38 seconds to get to the rats instead of 30.
